氷河期の壁画が驚くほどに写実的だったのは「描き手が自閉症だったから」という説明

約3万3000年前、氷河期に洞窟壁画を描いたのは自閉スペクトラム症の人類であったという可能性が、イギリスにあるヨーク大学の考古学者・Penny Spikins氏と自閉症の専門家によって行われた研究で示されました。

氷河期という厳しい環境は遺伝子の自然選択を発生しやすくし、人類が「長期にわたって細部にまで集中する」という能力を発達させる傾向にあったとのこと。
具体的には、環境を三次元的に知覚する能力の向上、イメージを保持する能力の向上、地形や動きのパターンを認識・分析する能力の向上があったとみられます。

上記の特徴は自閉スペクトラムの人々によく見られるものですが、この能力によって氷河期の人類は長時間の集中作業を経て効率的な石槍を作れるようになり、狩りを行う場所の広大な地形を記憶し、動物の行動パターンの記憶と分析を行えるようになりました。
